Madhu Mathur, MD, MPH
Madhu Mathur, MD, MPH, is one of Connecticut’s first certified obesity medicine physicians as well as an experienced pediatrician. She specializes in treating children with excess weight and nutrition issues at Lifestyle Medicine Center in Stamford. She excels in working with the child and parent to bring about changes that have a lasting impact.
Dr. Mathur has focused on obesity in children since 2004.
While working as a pediatrician, she was surprised by the growing frequency of obesity among her patients. She realized that something fundamental was changing. Families were busier. Fast and processed food was everywhere. With more technology, people were becoming more sedentary. To try to understand the bigger picture, she went back to school and earned a master’s degree in public health from Columbia University and then, to better treat her patients, became board certified in obesity medicine. She started an obesity task force in Stamford and created Stamford Hospital’s KIDS’ FANS (Fitness and Nutrition Services) program, which promoted healthy lifestyles for children throughout the community. Now she focuses on individual families.
In her private practice, Dr. Mathur takes a family-oriented approach to help children who have weight problems. Patients and their parents find she has a down to earth, comforting manner that even the shyest child responds to. She provides a safe, non-judgmental space that helps children open up.
Dr. Mathur creates an individualized diet and exercise plan for each child based on up-to-date scientific evidence. Her meal plan gives satisfaction and fullness so that children are not constantly hungry and looking for food. She monitors and supports her patients every step of their journey towards better health.
Dr. Mathur welcomes you to Lifestyle Medicine Center, where your child’s well-being is her priority!
